The numbers 1 to 400,000 cover the 40 panels of The Darfur Wall. Each number represents a person killed in Darfur. By donating $1 or more you can light a number, turning it from dark gray to brilliant white. As we light the wall, we acknowledge the importance of each life lost, we cast light upon a tragedy too many have ignored, and we overcome one barrier to peace.

This is a beautiful example of how we don’t need to scream to deliver a powerful message. Aside from the brilliant and beautiful design, the people behind this project, Dan, Jonah, and Matt Burke of the Darfur Foundation, is putting web technology to good use - making it easy to share on MySpace, Facebook, Digg, del.icio.us, etc, displaying where donation is coming from around the world via Google Maps, and giving us all a simple way to track Darfur Wall’s progress with their Google Gadget.

Well - don’t just be impressed. Please go on their site and donate what you can, if you have the means.
