From Junk English, by Ken Smith: “Focus on is by far the most capacious stuffing phrase in modern American Idiom. It has been substituting, incorrectly, for many words and phrases.”
Examples - discuss (Let’s focus on that issue), keep in mind (The latter figure is the one the administration wants us to focus on), satisfy (The company has got to keep its eye on the ball and focus on its customers).
The definition of focus, as a verb, is “to concentrate” - such as ‘to focus one’s thoughts.’ Let’s use the word kindly and nicely.
