I was looking on Technorati to see if there’s any blogs on QuickBooks, the worse software we must use for our business. Then I came across a bunch of results similar to this junk. How do I flag this page? This problem isn’t so uncommon, but it’s the first time it’s getting in my way, and it is really, really annoying. People trying to get higher rank by exploiting the blogging services. Ugh.
At last I came to one relevant post, and it’s a good one. That’s exactly what I want to hear, a comparison between Microsoft Small Business Accounting versus Quickbooks.
I’m not the biggest fan of Microsoft, and Microsoft Money 2004 is the only piece of MS software I use regularly. But it is good - the interface is very simple and intuitive, and the report serves me well. I’m just a normal user with very little financial knowledge, and all I care about is to keep track of my dollars. I really like how it can memorize a couple of simple reports (I just do a monthly and yearly comparison report thing). I know there are a thousand other functions, utilities in the program, but I cannot care less.
Quickbooks, on the other hand, is a big pain in the ass. Nothing is intuitive in the software, and there’s no easy way to download bank activities. I can’t even figure out how to look up how much money we paid, say, Amazon.com this month. The only reason we use it is because our accountant needs the file in that format at the end of the year. Oh, and the piece of crap software costs us $200.
By the way, the comparison article on PC World linked above is written back in November, 2004, when the MS product was still in beta. I’m going to try and get a trial copy and compare it to Quickbooks. Another thing that puzzles me is how does Microsoft SBA 2006 differ from Microsoft Money Small Business?
